Area Groups
The Association encourages and supports the formation of Area Groups, run by members for members, with the aim of providing mutual modelling support and encouragement for members both old and new.
Group Activities
Some Groups have formal meetings with presentations, some gather to work on a joint layout, and some hold more informal modelmaking sessions. Often Groups will undertake a combination of these activities.
Some of our Groups have websites or publish Blogs about their activities which will give you a flavour of what goes on. Links to those sites are shown lower down the page.
How the Groups meet
Area Groups exist in different forms:
- Local Area Groups meet physically at specific locations in the UK and a couple of other parts of the world.
- The Virtual Area Group (or "VAG"), which is an email and website based forum to exchange information.
- Online Groups which meet by video conference.

Groups outside UK:
ZAG = World wide Zoom online group
DACH = German langauge online group, meets using Zoom
North American Area Group (NAAG) - meets via Zoom.
New Zealand Area Group - usually meets via Zoom.
South East Queensland Area Group - meets 3rd Saturday of the month from 10 am.
Attending an area group
All members, whether new to the Association or existing, are welcome to attend group meetings.
Contact details for Group Organisers, dates of Group meetings, and details of any presentations are published in each Newsletter, distributed with the 2mm Magazine and available in the Members' Area (member area password required). The Members' Area has articles about the history and activities of some area groups.
Try visiting an area group near you to see what working in 2mm is like, or to listen to a presentation that is of interest.
If you are a new member soon after you join the Association the organiser of your nearest Area Group may contact you and invite you to join.
The Association welcomes the formation of more groups especially in areas not currently covered. If you are interested in forming your own Group, get in touch with the Group Coordinator (contact details in the Members Resources area) who will be happy to support you. You don't have to be a super modeller to organise a group, just enthusiastic! And for physical meetings, you don't need special premises; quite a few active groups have started around a kitchen table.
