Llangerisech
by Nigel Ashton
Set at the end of the Cambrian main line on the Lleyn peninsular, Llangerisech is a mythical location, but with prototype elements of the region.
The layout is DCC controlled, contains 13 turnouts and has taken around 15 years to get to the current state. A lot of stock has been built or modified so that the layout can potentially operate in 4 different eras:
1930s Great Western with original buildings and semaphore signals. Most
of the stock is kit or scratch built to 2mm standards throughout.
Late 1950s using mainly converted N gauge locos and stock, both steam and
diesel. (this should be possible by the end of 2017)
1970s blue diesel with DMUs, many class 24/25s and a few other classes,
all converted N gauge models
Mid-2000s when Central Trains livery gave way to Arriva Trains Wales . All
converted N gauge models, sometimes with added detail.
Various scenic items get changed to complete the different eras as the goods yards makes way for the permanent way engineers and the turntable gets filled in.
The main station building is a model of Llanidloes, while the 1930s engine shed is adapted from the real thing at the same site. The waiting shelter is a typical GWR standard type used on the Dee valley route. The road bridge is based on one near Glan-leri and the cliff face inspired by Machynlleth.
